About us

First Christian Church exists to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to every person from every walk of life.  We are called to be servants of God both in His church and outside the church.  We follow the command of our savior, Jesus Christ, to first Love God and then Love People.  We are located in the heart of the city of Mount Vernon, Kentucky and seek to share the gospel with those who are here in Rockcastle County and beyond.  It is our prayer that each person we come into contact with knows that they are loved and are precious in God's eyes and that he seeks to share salvation with everyone who would call on His name. 

We believe that salvation can only be found in one thing, the person of Jesus Christ.  The Bible, which we believe is the wholly inspired word of God, teaches us that in order to have salvation we must first believe and confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he came to this earth to save that which was lost.  Then we repent of our sins and turn away from those things that have separated us from God and seek to do His will.  Finally we must follow Christ into Christian Baptism, where we are cleansed of our old selves, dying to those things that keep us apart from God.  When we are raised from the water the Bible says that we are a new creation and now have the gift of the Holy Spirit, God's gift to us.
